my new Y bike!

Part 2 - "Bob dangles the bait!"

For the next 2 hours, I helped Gil put the "Y" bike together. My job was to hold down the 3 legged stool near the "No Customers Allowed Back Here" sign, while Gil did all the real work. And I finally got to see somebody use a chain checker, a cone wrench and a crank arm extractor tool all within the same half hour. While Gil was madly rushing around assembling the "Y" , Bob kept coming in and out of the back room saying things like: "God, I wish I could keep this bike for myself. This may be the last one Trek ships me this year. I hear it takes months to get another "Y" bike." Then Bob sends one of the showroom assistant salesmen next door to the Dover Mercantile to get Cokes for everybody in the back room. He hands the guy a five dollar bill and a quarter. Two seconds after the kid leaves, the wall phone next to me rings and Bob tells me to answer it, cause it's so close to me.

I pick it up and this young shaky voice on the other end of the line say's; "Hi, this is Jerry. I'm the Production Scheduler at the TREK factory. Bob wanted me to call with an update of delivery dates on the new Carbon Fiber OCLV light weight, next generation, ultra cool, dual suspension "Y" mountain bike. Is Bob there?"

I hand Bob the phone and he listens for a while. He starts to frown and says things like; "Oh, really. You've got to make more! I can't believe production of the "Y" bike is sold out for the whole year and maybe the first half of 1996. I start to sweat on my three legged stool. Bob goes on over the phone that he can't believe all the Y-22s are sold out! You mean the only thing I can get delivered this year is the ultra expensive Y-33? WHAT, I can't even get another $3500 Y-33!

Bob begins to pace back and forth and starts to get agitated. He picks up a Park pedal wrench and begins to beat it on the work bench as he screams at the guy at TREK. "I've got customers that want the"Y" bike! I've GOT to have more than one this YEAR!"
